For last week’s L2L We partnered with City Park to develop their Environmental Education program. This included a brief tour of the Couteriere forest loop that covered the history of that part of the park as well as the different species that can be found on the walk. The students helped identify and track the native and invasive species that they observed along the way. Jeff also made some of them hold a harvestman.

Is Your Student Interested In Learning More About The NOCCA Audition Process? NOCCA invites parents to register their students for the Audition Information Session scheduled for Saturday, November 2.
Audition Information Sessions are not required to apply to NOCCA. They provide students the opportunity to learn directly from NOCCA Arts faculty about the audition expectations and requirements. This event is not the formal student audition, but is a FREE resource for students considering applying and auditioning for NOCCA’s programs.
9th-graders are working on redrawing LA voting districts in Jeff’s Civics class while studying Gerrymandering. Just in time for the upcoming election, make sure to go out and vote!
Community Engagement &
Career Exploration Program:
New Harmony’s Community Engagement & Career Exploration (CECE) Program is a major pillar of our students’ academic experience. The program offers students an opportunity to build relationships with people and organizations in our community in order to gain exposure to careers across various sectors. Through this explorative process, students will receive knowledge and develop skills that are essential for a fruitful, healthy and successful life. For more information please visit our involvement page on our website here.
I think I take feedback well and use this feedback to change my actions and improve myself for a positive change.
What is something you have learned in the past week?
I learned the saying “don’t judge a book by its cover”. I’ve always struggled with being too trusting with people if they seem nice upfront, but often get let down by people being fake.
What is a misconception people have about you?
People say that I’m argumentative, but I’m really just sticking up for what I believe in or what I’m passionate about. I try and not say anything if it doesn’t seem worth it.
What is the biggest dream you have for yourself that you do not often say aloud?
I’d like to be a biomedical engineer. I’m really good with technology and my grandpa has really inspired me to follow that dream. It mixes my interests and passions with a career.
Who has had a positive influence on your life so far and why?
My dad and my grandpa. They’ve taught me a lot of life lessons and skills that I’ll never forget. He especially teaches me the value of being truthful and honest.
What would you do differently if you knew nobody would judge you?
I wish I could change the past and some decisions I’ve made but with the knowledge that I have now. But, at the same time, I know the past has made me who I am. It’s hard to say.
What do you like about New Harmony?
I like everything about it. The staff is really understanding and helpful, they care for you and genuinely want you to grow. It doesn’t seem like they just want the day to be over with, but that they want to be around us and are invested in our future.
