Getting to Know Our Advisories:
Jeff, 9th grade Humanities
Meet Jeff’s advisory. He has 13 ninth grade students. Jeff loves being an advisor because it gives him an opportunity to connect with his students by discussing important topics outside of the academic classroom. Here’s what his advisees had to say:

What We’re Reading
Our tenth graders are currently analyzing “The Hero’s Journey” archetype by Joseph Campbell. This specific archetype is used as a tool to identify the hero’s in various literary pieces. Kids were also asked to make a physical representation of their own journey and how they are, or can be, the hero’s in their own causes for justice and peace.

What is something you do well?
I dance well! Especially African dance.
What is something you have learned in the past week?
In math class with Dina I have learned to finally understand positive and negative numbers.
What is a misconception people have about you?
People often guess my age wrong.
What is the biggest dream you have for yourself that you do not often say aloud?
I want to become a famous singer and dancer.
Who has had a positive influence on your life so far and why?
My mom, she is a construction worker and tries to make an impact on the world through her work.
What would you do differently if you knew nobody would judge you?
I need to think about that one more…

I like that you can be yourself and you don’t have to worry about anyone judging you.
