Electives Week: Student Photography Projects

For electives week, our fine arts students dedicated their time and creative energy to photography. They explored the work of various photographers, learned key aspects of composition and visual storytelling, and shared their daily life with the class through images. Each photographer submitted five final photos and accompanying writing that is included in a printed book entitled The World Through Our Eyes. Copies will be distributed to participants in October.

Community and Student Opportunities

RIDE New Orleans: Youth Transit Leadership Cohort

Our community partner, RIDE New Orleans–a transit advocacy group that works to win world-class transit in the New Orleans region–is creating a Youth Transit Leadership Cohort to ensure that the voices of young people, heavily transit-reliant residents, are mobilized, and heard. The Youth Transit Leadership Cohort is recruiting underrepresented youth, ages 17 to 25, who can effectively advocate for their interests in transit policy.

They would like New Harmony students or staff members who are in this age range and transit reliant to join their cohort. If you’re interested in participating, complete this survey

Also, they are seeking Cohort Leads. For more information on the Cohort Lead responsibility, and to apply, check out the following links:

Click here for the Cohort Lead responsibilities.

The lead application deadline is Monday, September 28th and the potential meeting date is Thursday, October 1st for 5:30 PM or Saturday, October 3rd for 11:30 AM.

NOLA River Fest!

NOLA River Fest is happening this week, September 21st to September 27th! Everyday, they are hosting events celebrating the cultural, economic, environmental & inspirational impacts and contributions of the Mississippi River to the Crescent City.

In honor of Hurricane Katrina 15 years after it devastated New Orleans, TWC has developed an immersive audio bike tour using the VoiceMap’s tour App exploring the relationships between our water infrastructure and landmarks of Hurricane Katrina told through a musical lens. On this self-lead tour take a journey through downtown New Orleans and learn about the intersections of water, climate, history, and social inequalities still facing New Orleans 15 years later.

VoiceMap’s tour app gives you the freedom to explore at your own pace. You can start our tour at any time and stop whenever and wherever you like, for as long as you like. The app uses your location to play audio automatically, at exactly the right time and place, and when you start moving again, playback will too. It also gives you directions, making it much easier to put your phone away and immerse yourself in your surroundings.
