Tulane Heroes & Helpers Award:
New Harmony Social Worker
Christine LeGuizamo

“Heroes & Helpers” recognizes a person or team, among Tulane’s students, faculty, staff and alumni, engaged in extraordinary efforts on behalf of others in the battle against the major health crisis of our time.

“Over the past seven months, LeGuizamo has found new avenues to connect her students to vital resources while they are temporarily disconnected from their larger sense of community. Beyond virtual and telehealth consultations, LeGuizamo has begun socially-distanced home visits to ensure her young students – particularly incoming ninth-graders – feel the critically important connection between home and school. Her genuine care and concern for her students provides a safety net for those who rely on services offered through their public schools. LeGuizamo is a community hero in the truest sense, ensuring New Orleans students and their families remain connected with their academic community.”

A Message to 9th and 10th-Grade Families

COVID-19 has restricted us from doing what we love most–getting our students out into the community, and connecting them with partners and mentors through Leaving to Learns and service projects.

To overcome this, we’ve found a way to bring the community and mentors to our students by partnering with Five Network, the world’s first Mentor Operating System (mOS) designed to inspire the future workforce and teach universal and customized skills at any time, anywhere.

FIVE connects 9th graders and 10th graders (we wish it could be offered to each grade-level) to a team of mentors and motivational learning content via a mobile app for 5 years. FIVE is an exclusive community of motivated students and mentors who are top leaders in their fields. Students log-in for 5 minutes every day, any time from anywhere, to connect with their mentors and learn valuable life & career skills.  Student presentation and support will take place on October 26th and November 2nd for 9th and 10th grade, respectively. For more information, reach out to Anthony Burrell (anthony@newharmonyhigh.org)
