Be Loud Studios & New Harmony High Collaborations

Thanksgiving Submissions

Be Loud Radio is a youth-based radio station that airs every Saturday at 9AM on WHIV. We reach out to schools like New Harmony about opportunities to get students’ radio pieces on the air. For this Thanksgiving, students can record a research piece, a story or an interview about Thanksgiving, or something to be grateful for. If you are in English 2 with Charles, talk to him about getting extra credit! The pieces can be any length, and if possible should include a short intro explaining who you are and who you are interviewing. For more information on recording, check out this doc. For questions or to submit any content to Be Loud Radio, email us at blrnolasubmit@gmail.com.

The Good News Stuff

Be Loud Radio is now hosting The Good Stuff News, a regular news segment covering positive stories happening in the local community and the world. Students can research, write and/or record news stories by filling out this form. Once you fill out the form we will contact you with more information. Each story should be less than 1 minute 30 seconds. For more details, check out this slide with some helpful links. Feel free to email blrnolasubmit@gmail.com with questions or concerns.

OUTDOOR ADVENTURES / PHYSICAL EDUCATION ADVISOR / TEACHER

The Outdoor Adventures physical education class is not your traditional PE course. Instead of learning with basketballs and tennis rackets, students use rods and reels, and bows and arrows. The Outdoor Adventures course is designed to change your life forever by exposing you to the many great opportunities of the outdoors.

Coastal Protection and Restoration Podcast Recommendation:

Delta Dispatches

A New Harmony parent sent this Podcast our way, and we’d like to share it with you too.
ABOUT DELTA DISPATCHES

As Louisiana’s Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) advances its draft 2017 Coastal Master Plan, the next few months will be critical in the fight to restore Louisiana’s coast. To keep you engaged and informed, we will bring you discussions on important aspects of coastal restoration, the latest coastal news and events, interviews with relevant experts, business and community leaders, and more.

Community Opportunities

The Coalition the Restore Coastal Louisiana (CRCL) invites you to join us as they continue their C.R.U.S.H. (Communities Restoring Urban Swamp Habitat) event series into another season, planting an additional 2,500 trees this winter.

With the help of volunteers, they will be planting trees along the Lake Maurepas landbridge in Akers, in the Central Wetlands Unit in St. Bernard Parish, and at Fort St. Philip in Buras.

And they need your help!
This project helps to restore and sustain the quality of wetlands within the Pontchartrain Basin watershed, and allows them to facilitate conversations about coastal restoration with local communities on the front lines of land loss.

CRCL will have strict safety guidelines in place to reduce the spread of COVID-19. See our event details for more information. Click here to learn more and register in advance to volunteer at one of their plantings.

10th Grade Spanish Class Highlight

Check out this amazing project Emery made for Spanish II.  From Jaron “The assignment was to create a short animated video using the different skills from class this semester. Very broad. He decided to make a zombie based action movie/playable video game. Needless to say, he’s the Spanish 2 teacher now.
