A Message from our School Leader

Hello New Harmony Families.

We can’t believe 2020 is coming to a close. There are just two weeks left in the semester!
We know this has been a super tough semester, and we know being distant from one another has created challenges that we weren’t expecting. During such an unprecedented time, we normally get to rely on one another and the strength in our relationships to carry us through. Now is the time for us to dig deep and remember what we’re capable of, to put in every ounce of effort that we can to wrap up the semester, complete all our final projects, attend and participate in all of our morning classes and afternoon small group sessions, and closeout strong. We know you can do this.

We miss you, we love you, we can’t wait to see you.

Best,

Sunny Summers

OUTDOOR ADVENTURES / PHYSICAL EDUCATION ADVISOR / TEACHER

The Outdoor Adventures physical education class is not your traditional PE course. Instead of learning with basketballs and tennis rackets, students use rods and reels, and bows and arrows. The Outdoor Adventures course is designed to change your life forever by exposing you to the many great opportunities of the outdoors.

Fine Arts Highlight:
Class Zines

In Fine Arts, students learned about self-publishing and DIY (do it yourself) zine-making, and they made 8-page mini zines out of a single piece of paper.

Please see Naje’s video here of her finished zine that she would like to share with a wider audience.

College Beyond Webinar

It’s not too early to start learning about college admissions! This webinar is a great place to start, especially if you or your student have any interest in UNO or College Beyond, a college success program that provides support and guidance during high school and continues throughout the college years. If you are unable to attend, but interested in discussing college admissions, please contact our academic guidance counselor,
Kat Bell at kat@newharmonyhigh.org.

Plant Trees with CRCL

The Coalition the Restore Coastal Louisiana (CRCL) invites you to join us as they continue their C.R.U.S.H. (Communities Restoring Urban Swamp Habitat) event series into another season, planting an additional 2,500 trees this winter.

With the help of volunteers, they will be planting trees along the Lake Maurepas landbridge in Akers, in the Central Wetlands Unit in St. Bernard Parish, and at Fort St. Philip in Buras.

And they need your help!
This project helps to restore and sustain the quality of wetlands within the Pontchartrain Basin watershed, and allows them to facilitate conversations about coastal restoration with local communities on the front lines of land loss.

CRCL will have strict safety guidelines in place to reduce the spread of COVID-19. See our event details for more information. Click here to learn more and register in advance to volunteer at one of their plantings.
