Meet Anthony Burrell

March 19th, 2018

Meet Anthony Burrell, our Community Coordinator for next year!

What is your education and career background?

I have seven years of professional services and accounting experience, most of which were spent at Ernst &Young where I provided financial and non-financial assurance and professional services—which included financial audits, carbon and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) assurance, environmental liability testing and conflict minerals management and reporting. Most recently, I transitioned into Education, participating in the Education Pioneer fellowship and working as the Finance and Accounting Controller for a Charter Management Organization with five schools. I have a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of New Orleans and a CPA license in Louisiana.

Why are you passionate about New Harmony?

New Harmony’s encouragement of students’ self-discovery through work and academic study to address some of the most significant threats to our region’s survival—environmental issues and their social impacts—is revolutionary.  For students, this pilgrimage will bridge the disconnect between self, society and the natural world.

Who was your most influential teacher during high school and why?

Ms. White, my high school African American History teacher. The content of that class and her warmth, passion and knowledge helped me to appreciate the strife and success of my ancestors. The seeds she sowed sprouted later in life, but were important nonetheless.
