Next Year’s Schedule and Dual Enrollment Information
As the year winds down, it is time to look towards next year and begin scheduling classes! For rising juniors and seniors, one great option for next year is to take a dual enrollment course at Delgado or UNO. If you or your student are interested in pursuing dual enrollment coursework in the fall, please read the process and criteria below.
Step One: Read the NHH Dual Enrollment/SCA Course Criteria. If you qualify —-> Step Two: Complete the NHH Dual Enrollment Application by May 27th. Step Three: Complete the application with the college of choice (Delgado or UNO). Step Four: If all criteria are met and you are accepted by Delgado/UNO, schedule a time with Kat to choose and enroll in their course(s). Step Five: Get the Parental Agreement signed.
The Class of 2022 has first priority for dual enrollment, then the Class of 2023. Students in 9th and 10th grade are not eligible. Me In This Moment
Podcast Launch Celebration
Please join us in celebrating the launch of the Me In This Moment Podcast – an event in partnership with 826 New Orleans, Be Loud Studios, Baldwin & Company Books, and the New Orleans Book Festival!
* When: This Saturday, May 15th
* Where: Baldwin & Company Books (1030 Elysian Fields)
* Time: 10am-Noon
* What is happening? We will be celebrating the official launch of the Me In This Moment Podcast with a world premier of the first episode and a panel of student readers who will be sharing stories from the upcoming book “I Heard A Voice Echo”
* Will the event be outdoors? Yes, the event will be outside in the courtyard; masks will be required.
* Wait, will students get their books here? Not at this event — they are almost done being printed. But we have another celebration planned for Saturday, June 12th from 10am-noon (location will be announced soon) where students will get their books and books will also be available for purchase! Be sure to save that date in your calendars.
In Fine Arts, we explored sculpture/ceramics and created our own pieces out of air clay.
Summer Reading Assignments
In an effort to keep students engaged over the summer, the humanities department has distributed summer reading books and assignments to current students. If your student does not have a book and an assignment yet, please email jeff@newharmonyhigh.org. All assignments will be due the first day of school next fall — digital versions of the assignments are also attached below. Links to audiobooks will also be provided for all assignments.

Volunteer Opportunities
All students at New Harmony are encouraged to complete 20 hours of community service each year. If successful in completing 80 hours by graduation, they receive the Community Service Diploma Endorsement, a mark of distinction that helps students stand out in future applications for internships, jobs, colleges and scholarships! If you are already volunteering, don’t forget to track your hours using the official form, found on the Louisiana Department of Education website here.
Current Community Volunteer Opportunities
Glass Half Full NOLA: This non-profit was started by a few Tulane University students in their backyard and has grown to become a national example of what communities can do when they work together to solve a problem. They have diverted thousands of tons of glass and turned it into sand for restoration and hurricane protection. Click here to fill out the volunteer form and find a time that works for you!
City Park Super Saturdays
Typically on the first Saturday of each month, City Park hosts a community volunteer day for citizens all ages to attend. The projects vary from month to month and have previously included: trail mulching, painting, planting, shoreline cleanup, catch basin cleaning, special event help, and more. Common Ground Relief
One of our partner organizations, Common Ground Relief’s mission is “to create resilient Gulf Coast communities that are environmentally sustainable, financially viable and personally cohesive.” Individuals may join us for an ongoing schedule, or on individual dates when wetlands planting projects, nursery care, and food pantry hours are scheduled. Tuesdays – Food distribution at the Levee Pantry
Tuesdays – Marsh grass plantings with LDAF’s Coastal Re-Vegetation Program
Fridays – Wetlands restoration activities including iris rescue with LICI, invasive species removal, tree potting, and more
Saturdays – Nursery work days from 10 – 2

Loyola Academy
Collaborative Workshop
Through generous funding from Entergy New Orleans and AT&T Foundation, we are excited to announce that Loyola University New Orleans will host the second Loyola Academy, a collaborative workshop incorporating an interdisciplinary approach using science and design techniques in the hopes of understanding the social, cultural, and ecological implications of how New Orleans citizens manage their water. Participants will spend a week going on field trips to see community initiatives and listening to presentations about the formation of southeast Louisiana, the history of New Orleans, gray/green infrastructure, and discussing the best tools for educating the community about sustainably embracing water in New Orleans.

The NORD Teen Career Camp offers teenagers ages 13-15 career exploration and job preparation skills as well as financial literacy training and character development. Breakfast, lunch, and field trips are provided. Additionally, teens earn a stipend of $75 per week over six weeks. Limited spots are available.

The City of New Orleans Summer Programs
NOLA Youth Works provides quality summer work experiences for local youth ages 16-21. The focus of the summer employment program is to expose participants to careers of interest with the intention of creating a career-ready workforce. This is a great opportunity that could help define your career goals.
