Dear Students and Families,

Welcome to New Harmony High School! We are thrilled you’ve decided to become part of the New Harmony family.

In this handbook you’ll find resources and information to make your experience the best it can be. First you’ll find our vision and mission– the piece that binds us to our greater community and each other. Next you’ll find staff information will allow you to get in touch with staff and teachers. The calendar as we know it is published too, but always check newharmonyhigh.org for the latest version. Academic policies follow. You’ll find a matrix for our planned credit progression for students who enter as 9th graders with no high school credits. We know that’s not always the case– and we recognize our students have individual needs– so this credit progression is not written in stone. Our school policies should clear up any questions or grey area you may wonder about, especially dress code, attendance and technology use. Finally, we address behavior norms and discipline, including state law keeps us in compliance as a public charter school in Louisiana.

We pride ourselves in our relationships. Please reach out if you have questions or concerns. Your child’s advisor will always be your first stop, but administration is here to support as well. The school is open for visits, and my door is always open for conversation!

Looking forward to a beautiful year,

Our 2019-2020 student handbook is located here.

As per Act 240 of 2019, our fees policy is as follows:

  • New Harmony is a free, public, open-enrollment school and does not currently collect fees of any type for curricular or extracurricular activities.
  • The school charges a replacement fee for a lost or damaged school ID ($10) which can be paid to the Operations Coordinator in the main office.

Our prospective student open house is Wednesday, November 6, 2019 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Shadow days happen the third Friday of each month. Contact the school to arrange a shadow day.

Because our school design seeks to put students as drivers of passion and interest-based learning, we are looking to enroll students who seek education methods that extend beyond a traditional classroom setting. We seek to enroll students who enjoy hands-on learning, who want to work on issues that affect Southern Louisiana, and who have a love for the culture and ecology that comprises our region.
